Stop The SPP - Public Forum
9 05 2008
On August 15 2007, Connie Fogal, indomitable leader of the Canadian Action Party, social scientist and author Bo Filter, NDP Member of Parliament for Victoria, Denise Savoie and Bob Hansen, Chair of the Nanaimo Chapter of the Council of Canadians all converged in Victoria at a packed hall public forum to discuss the Security and Prosperity Partnership. The presentations ranged from an impassioned plea by Ms. Fogal for us to become proactive and reclaim our democracy to Mr. Filter’s discussion on the deepening integration of Canadian/U.S. military to Ms. Savoie’s report on the abysmal state of SPP opposition in Ottawa. The program was rounded out by Mr. Hansen’s thirty-five year history lesson on revolving door corruption within the Canadian political system. Ultimately, the prognosis is dire for the Canadian, American and Mexican citizenry as the centuries old cautionary tale of power, greed and corruption once again unfolds before us. This time, however, it seems our return to oligarchal plantation servitude is being undemocratically carried out whether we like it or not by our Punchinello politicians choreographed by their corporate puppet masters. Will the Security and Prosperity Partnership be the death knell for Canada as we know it? To paraphrase John Donne: “Each country’s death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls Canada, It tolls for thee. And it was brought about By the S.P.P
